Operation Cheshire: Lockheed Hercules of the Lyneham Wing participate in the airlift of humanitarian supplies into Sarajevo in Bosnia.

The first female Royal Air Force helicopter pilot, Flight Lieutenant Nicky Smith, graduates from No.89 Course, No.2 Flying Training School at RAF Shawbury. Flight Lieutenant Smith is a recipient of the Blackwood Trophy.

RAF Regiment officers are deployed to Cambodia as observers for the United Nations Transitional Authority.

No.38 Group is reformed within RAF Strike Command.

Air Chief Marshal Sir Michael Graydon is appointed Chief of the Air Staff.

Royal Air Force (RAF) participation in the United Nations-sponsored air effort to aid Somalia, Operation Vigour, commences. During the operation, more than five million pounds of freight are delivered from Mombassa in Kenya.
